Nerve Monitoring on Face and Neck Surgery

Safe Procedure Involving Cranial Nerves

At Miya and Torchinsky ENT we utilize state-of-the-art technology to make surgical procedures as safe as ever. Nerve monitoring is utilized by surgeons when performing complex surgeries that involve the cranial nerves. Wires and electrodes in designated areas on the face and/or neck will be placed on the patient prior to the operation to monitor the facial nerves. In some cases where the nerve monitoring will be recurrent, electrodes are integrated into the endotracheal tube. In both cases, the surgeon will be alerted during surgery when the nerve is being affected by the procedure. This technology makes the risk of nerve damage much less than it has been in the past.
